  • The Comeback

I like a good comeback. I really thought Matthew Perry was in the midst of his. Whoops. Some people never need a comeback. They are in it, and they stay in it, like Betty White or that guy from the Terminator movies.

My hair is a mess, my water glass still 2/3rds full, and my pits are wet as I hazily complete the morning coffee ritual.

This is my comeback, if you could really say I have a place to come back to, which I guess, I am saying, I do. I abandoned all other aspects of myself to be absorbed by just one, and it’s taken years to break free and become the semi-functioning coffee drinking left handed demon viking writer you now see the words of before you. I’m not saying I’ve made it that far or that I will. I am probably not striving for a lifelong performance career or any sort of governing position. I really might just work some fucking jobs to make ends meet forever.

My comeback is I come back in one piece, and I stay that way. I keep a grip on all aspects of myself most of the time, and then, you get to read this. A fair exchange, no? Like silver for silk if you ask me. If you care to partake in such exchanges.

I probably won’t coach any sports, or have this shining moment in the public light. There will be no stadium of fans, and, equally so, I hope there will be no myriad of angry (animal?) villagers running me out of town. This comeback needs no fame or infamy.

I came back and fought the thing that beat me down and took me out of the game. I dusted myself off and I put the uniform back on. The horrible monotony driving me to change has come to an end, and I emerge fresh-faced and ready to fight. Even in this moment, feeling not so straight and kempt and clean, I bask in the peace that I am up and out of bed. Years in the past, I knew 2023 would hold some chaotic significance. If it is truly anything, it is the year I returned to the land of the living. When you go to bed for years, it can take years to get up normally again. I get up and get ready for the game every day. I’ve made the comeback.

Pathetic, isn’t it? That’s why Arnold Schwarzenegger never played me in the movie.
